Carter Elkins, a native of Charleston, West Virginia, received a baccalaureate degree from Marietta College. He received his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Mr. Elkins then served as a law clerk to United States District Judge Robert J. Staker of the Southern District of West Virginia. Upon conclusion of that clerkship, he associated with Campbell Woods.
Mr. Elkins has an active trial practice and is engaged in the defense of insurance companies on a direct basis, as well as for their policyholders. His practice is based in the firm's Huntington office, where he is also engaged as a managing member of the firm. This trial practice includes civil rights, where he defends governmental agencies or officials, commercial litigation, insurance coverage disputes and the defense of bad faith actions brought directly against insurance carriers. He is routinely called upon to defend commercial motor vehicle operators by their insurers or employers.
Mr. Elkins is a member of the West Virginia State Bar, the Defense Research Institute and the International Association of Defense Counsel. He has been recognized as a West Virginia Super Lawyer and as a member of the Best Lawyers of America for the past several years, as well as currently.
